Founded in 2010, 4Culture Association carries out activities in the field of contemporary arts - dance, performance, visual arts and multidisciplinary projects. 4Culture aims to contribute to the ongoing professional development and promotion of artists, by organising workshops, research and coaching programs, mentoring, residencies, production, presentation and dissemination.
4Culture highlights the role of art in promoting intercultural dialogue, tolerance, human rights and social cohesion, by promoting socially and politically involved art. The developed projects facilitate meetings between artists from various fields and contribute to an opening of cultural institutions (museums, cultural centres) in relation to the educational environment (communities, high schools and universities), nationally and on European level. The international experience of 4Culture is recognised, the projects implemented in 10 years activity being carried out in partnerships with important institutions and artists, while receiving public appreciation in the cultural and creative field.
4Culture is the organiser of the eXplore festival - Bucharest International Contemporary Dance and Performance Festival, multidisciplinary festival held annually since 2005, and is currently co-organiser of the multi-annual project Life Long Burning European network, co-funded by the European Union, through Creative Europe program in the period 2018-2022. Life Long Burning (2013-2018, 2018-2022) is a European network of 11 members. Beneficiary of the grant "Promoting diversity in culture and art in the European Cultural Heritage" (EEA Grants), the project "Foreign Bodies” (2014-2016) was developed around the concepts of “foreign body” and “periphery” and resulted from the intentions of the partners to contribute through their international expertise to an improvement of artistic mobility, tolerance and social inclusion.
4 Culture won the The Administration of National Cultural Fund (AFCN) Award 2019 - PROMOTION OF ROMANIAN CULTURE IN THE WORLD (for eXplore festival), and it was nominated at AFCN Awards 2017 in the category RESISTANCE IN CULTURE (for the entire activity), and in 2016 in the category PRIZE FOR INTERDISCIPLINARY ACTIVATION, for Platform X.
Andreea Căpitănescu, the president of 4Culture, was the performing arts curator of EUROPALIA ROMANIA edition for EUROPALIA Arts Festival (Belgium, 2019-2020), jury member of CINEDANS 2013 and member of the curatorial team for ImPulsTanz 2015.
Since 2012, 4Culture has been operating in the contemporary art space WASP Working Art Space and Production in Bucharest, as co-founder of the space, together with WASP Studios organisation.
